Human-Centred AI and Robotics in Manufacturing Systems

Wednesday 21 June 2023, 2.00PM to 3.00pm

Speaker(s): Dr John Oyekan, Senior Lecturer, Department of Computer Science

Industry 5.0, also known as the Fifth Industrial Revolution, is a new and emerging phase of industrialisation that sees humans working alongside advanced technology and A.I.-powered robots to enhance workplace processes.

Industry 5.0 aims to have increased resilience, an improved focus on sustainability as well as a more human-centric focus. Such human centred AI and Robotics in Manufacturing systems have the capacity and potential to augment humans while working collaboratively with them. This opens the possibility of significantly enhancing both the physical and intelligent capabilities of humans in various tasks.

Towards achieving the above goal, we take a multidisciplinary approach in our research in which we apply knowledge from Biology and Psychology to inspire the development of novel algorithms, frameworks and platforms for the next generation of Human centred Manufacturing Systems.

In this talk, I will discuss some of the work we have done so far in achieving the above.
