YDS 2017 Call for Papers and Posters

The 10th York Doctoral Symposium 2017 (YDS 2017)

Background

The Departments of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering at the University of York are hosting the 10th York Doctoral Symposium on Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (YDS 2017) on the 17th November 2017. The goal of the symposium is to bring together doctoral students from around the UK and Europe to share and exchange research and ideas. The symposium will promote interdisciplinary research and help research students to gain experience in presenting their work to colleagues. Prizes will be awarded for the best submissions. Please see the Submission Instructions section below for guidance on how to format and submit submissions. For further information, please see the conference website:https://www.cs.york.ac.uk/yds/2017. If you have any questions, please contact the committee: ydscsee@york.ac.uk

Submission Instructions

We will be accepting two categories of submission to YDS 2017:

  • Full length papers (up to 5 pages)
  • Posters

Submissions should be made via the EasyChair conference management system. The EasyChair page for YDS 2017 is here. If you do not already have an EasyChair account, instructions for setting one up can be found here. There are different submission instructions for papers and posters.

Papers

Papers should be formatted using the IEEE transactional format, template for transactions and instructions for which can be obtained from https://www.ieee.org/publications_standards/publications/authors/author_templates.html under the heading ``Templates for Transaction’’. Although a Microsoft Word template is provided, we strongly recommend using LaTeX to format your paper. If you have never used LaTeX before, a tutorial can be found at https://www.latex-tutorial.com. There is also a good online LaTeX editor available at https://www.overleaf.com.

Papers must be submitted via EasyChair by logging in, selecting ‘New Submission’ from the bar at the top, and filling in the form with the details of the paper. The PDF of the paper should be uploaded along with the submission. The submission may be edited at any time before the deadline (Friday 1st September 5pm GMT). After the deadline for paper submission, the papers will be reviewed and you will be notified whether or not your paper has been accepted. If your paper has been accepted, you will then need to update it, taking into account the reviewer’s comments, and submit the final camera-ready version via EasyChair.

Posters

Posters must be submitted in two stages. Posters will be reviewed based on an initial submission of a one-page (maximum) abstract of the poster’s content. The abstract should be formatted using the same IEEE Transaction style as above and submitted via EasyChair as described for papers above. The poster will be reviewed based on the abstract and you will be notified whether the poster has been accepted or not. If the poster is accepted then a camera-ready version of the poster must be submitted by the camera-ready deadline (20th October, 2017). This camera-ready version must be at most A1 in size, as this is the maximal capacity of the display boards. NOTE: You must produce the printed poster yourself and bring it to the conference, we will not be printing the posters.

Publication

The proceedings of the symposium (full-length papers and poster abstracts) will be published as a technical report by the Department of Computer Science, University of York. The report will be freely available online from Computer Science Online Library Several hard copies will also be printed.
