The Department of Computer Science at the University of York is to host the 4th York Doctoral Symposium on Computer Science (YDS 2011) on the 20th October this year. The goal of the symposium is to bring together doctoral students from around the UK and Europe to share and exchange their research and ideas with others. The hope is that by bringing students together from a wide range of areas, we can promote interdisciplinary research, as well as allow doctoral students to gain experience presenting their work to colleagues.
The final proceedings of YDS 2011 have now been published as a York Computer Science (YCS) technical report, with reference YCS-2011-468. Included are all of the full-length papers, extended abstracts, poster abstracts, organisational details, and a preface from the Programme Chair.
You can download the final proceedings from the link below:
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the symposium last week, whether through presenting a talk, poster, review, or simply by attending. It was a fantastic day.
Chris Marriott (one of our Organising Committee members) took a number of photos throughout the day, which are now available for your viewing pleasure through the photo sharing site, Flickr. Please follow the link below:
We are pleased to announce that registration for YDS 2011 is now open!
Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors this year, the symposium is free for everyone to attend. In return for filling out a simple form, you will gain access to a packed technical programme, numerous coffee breaks, delicious sandwiches, an evening banquet at The Olive Tree, and a registration pack (filled with all sorts of goodies, as well as the technical proceedings).
We are looking forward to meeting you on the 20th. Register here!
Following a number of requests, we have decided to extend the deadline for paper submission to the York Doctoral Symposium until this Sunday, 10th July.
As is tradition, we have extended the submission deadline for full length and short papers. We will now be accepting submissions until the 3rd July. The poster submission deadline remains the same (8th August).
We are delighted to announce that Professor Alan Winfield has agreed to be our invited speaker at YDS this year. Alan is the Hewlett-Packard Professor of Electronic Engineering at the University of the West of England. He is also the Director of the UWE Science Communication Unit and an EPSRC Senior Media Fellow. His research focuses on mobile robots, having founded the Bristol Robotics Laboratory, and he is currently focusing on swarm intelligence. A more detailed biography can be found here. The YDS organising and program committees are both eagerly anticipating what promises to be a very exciting session with Professor Winfield.
The Programme Chair has been elected, the Organising Committee assembled, and the organisation is underway. We’ll be updating this site soon to keep you posted with all the news related to this years symposium. In the meantime, if you’re interested in finding out more about YDS, check out last year’s web site.
