Workshop "Best Practices for Model Driven Software Development"

http://www.softmetaware.com/oopsla2005/mdsd-workshop.html

OOPSLA 2005, San Diego, California, USA, http://www.oopsla.org/

Sunday, 16 October 2005
8:30-17:00 Full day

------------------------------------------------------------------------

This workshop is a continuation of a highly successful series of
workshops at OOPSLA04, at OOPSLA03, and at OOPSLA02.

In recent years model driven approaches have been embraced by the Object
Management Group (OMG) in the form of the
Model Driven Architecture® (MDA®) initiative, Microsoft has started to
work on software development tools that fully embrace the concepts of
software factories and domain specific languages, and a whole number of
Open Source projects are now focused on building open tool platforms for
MDSD.

Model driven Open Source initiatives in particular may turn out to be
critical in establishing MDSD as a mainstream software development
paradigm.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Call for Position Papers:

Potential participants are asked to submit a two-page (or longer)
position paper detailing their experience with
Model Driven Software Development(http://www.mdsd.info) and model driven
generative techniques, their perspective on one or more of the topics
indicated below, and their planned contribution to the workshop. We seek
concrete case studies and potential topics of discussion in order to
ground the workshop in real-world issues.

Please mail your submission (in PDF or Word) to:
Jorn Bettin ( jorn . bettin @ softmetaware . com ).

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The workshop aims to bring together practitioners, researchers,
academics, and students to discuss best practices for the development of
model driven software - and beyond the methodological aspect also to
discuss the state-of-the-art Open Source tool support for MDSD.

Topics of interest include:

* industrial applications of MDSD;
* synergy between MDSD and Object/Component Technology;
* the agile aspect of MDSD;
* Open Source tooling for MDSD;
* influence of MDSD on software architecture;
* MDSD in distributed team environments (large projects, offshore
development);
* implementing domain specific languages on the basis of the UML [2.0];
* notations for model-to-model transformations, and the development of a
possible common standard notation for model transformations;
* modeling variability in functionality within product lines;
* model weaving and model transformation;
* pre and post-conditions for transformations;
* transformation and traceability;
* organization of hierarchical transformation libraries; transformations
as assets;
* applications of higher level transformations (transformations
generating transformations);
* verification of transformation systems;
* styles of model driven generators;
* model driven template languages (language design, template execution
environment, debugging, template editors, management of template code);
* specification of heuristics and manual design decisions;
* generation of code and non-code artifacts (e.g. tests, measures,
etc.).

The goal is to share experience, assess the state-of-the-art and the
state-of-the-practice, consolidate successful techniques, and identify
the most promising application areas and open issues for future work.
