time since I have used it or followed the progress of its use/development.

My background is concerned with designing and developing databases for
enterprise environments. I use Entity Relationship Diagrams to design my
databases. However, recently I have moved into complete architecture
design for the enterprise system. It would seem that ERD is fairly
limited in designing the full system, including deployment/implementation
modelling. UML, however, seems to be perfect for this.

Where I am struggling, however, is in understanding how UML can replace
ERD, and therefore be used to design databases from the conceptual to
logical to physical level. Can it also be used to design complete
database transactions?

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I will be extremely
