The department is currently undergoing a major expansion in research activities and in undergraduate and postgraduate enrolments, and has recently moved into a new purpose-designed building. Candidates should have an internationally distinguished record in an area of computer science that will strengthen or complement our current research activities in software, database systems, human computer interaction, e-commerce, or artificial intelligence. The candidate should be able to demonstrate a track record of research income generation and the ability to contribute to curriculum development, research collaboration, and joint developments with industry. An interest in innovative ways of teaching and providing a rich learning environment will be particularly welcome. An appointment may be made at the reader grade for a candidate of exceptional promise whose track record does not yet merit a professorship. The appointee will be expected to establish a research group and to provide leadership for those working in other areas of computer science. The Department will be advertising for additional lectureships in the near future, and the appointee will be able to participate in the selection process in order to increase the human resources in their research area. Alternatively, where an applicant has already built up a research team in his or her present institution, the University would be willing to make lectureships available to enable the team to remain together. The Department has had a consistently successful record in research and the quality of its teaching was rated as 'Excellent'. Collaboration is encouraged both within the Department and with groups from elsewhere. Further details of the Department's activities can be found at the web address http://www.dcs.warwick.ac.uk/ Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Mike Paterson F.R.S. by telephone: +44 24 7652 3194 or email: Mike.Paterson@dcs.warwick.ac.uk. -- Ananda M.
