Division of Informatics, University of Edinburgh invites applications for TWO POSTS as RESEARCH FELLOW, tenable for up to THREE YEARS on the project Design Environment for Global Applications (DEGAS) which is an EU-funded project, to run from January 1 2002 to December 31 2004. DEGAS involves four universities (Trento, Technical University of Denmark, Pisa and Edinburgh) and two companies (Motorola and Omnys). DEGAS aims to combine the use of UML for design of global wireless applications with formal methods for their analysis and verification, particularly with respect to performance prediction and security. Edinburgh's contribution will focus on: 1) the development of a UML profile for global application design, and a tool architecture integrating standard UML tools with formal analysis tools. For more information, contact Perdita Stevens (Perdita.Stevens@dcs.ed.ac.uk) (please quote ref: 310960) 2) the definition of formally defined performance modelling constructs, reflecting the UML profile, and investigation of efficient solution techniques and data structures to derive quantitative information from designs. For more information, contact Jane Hillston (jeh@dcs.ed.ac.uk) (please quote ref: 310961) Applicants for both posts should be interested in working on the theory/practice interface, including contributing to tool development. They would normally be expected to have a PhD in a relevant subject, though those with equivalent relevant experience will be considered. The positions will be held within the Laboratory for Foundations of Computer Science, a thriving research community within the Division of Informatics. Whilst the posts are based in Edinburgh, there will be extensive opportunities to collaborate with, and visit, other project sites. The salary scale for the positions is 17,451-26,229 p.a.
