If you wish to apply for competition funding (eg DRSA, DTG) you can either choose from the topics listed below or submit your own research proposal. The topics listed are consistent with the department's research themes and are therefore more likely to be considered favourably for funding.

Directly funded PhD projects available for immediate application

These studentships are fully-funded by UK Research Councils, charities or industry. Eligibility criteria vary so please check who is funding the project in which you are interested. For projects funded by EPSRC, only UK and EU students who meet the UK residency requirements are eligible to apply (minimum of three years of continuous residency in the UK immediately prior to the start of the PhD).

EPSRC studentships cover: (i) an annual tax-free stipend at the standard Research Council rate (£14,553 for 2017-2018, but typically increases annually in line with inflation) and (ii) tuition fees at the UK/EU rate.

EPSRC Doctoral Training Grant (DTG) and Department Research Students Award (DRSA)

EPSRC Doctoral Training Grant (DTG) - This award covers tuition fees and a stipend for 3 years (£14,553p.a. in 2017/18). The studentship is open to UK and EU nationals with 3 years residency in the UK. Full details here

Department Research Students Award (DRSA) - This award covers tuition fees (see University fees page) for the three-year PhD programme. Overseas as well as UK and EU nationals are eligible to apply. Full details here.

  2. Apply online for a full-time PhD in Computer Science. You must quote the project title and funding scheme on your application.
  3. Deadline for applications is midnight on Friday 19 January 2018.
