New Look?

I think this wiki is a great idea, but I really don't like the way it looks at the moment. I think that the wikipedia skin isn't really very suitable for the PLASMA webpage for several reasons:

  • It's over-complicated - do we really need a search box for instance?
  • It's ugly
  • It makes the page look like wikipedia, rather than giving us an individual identity

I suggest that we move to a different skin. My favored candidate is the one used by the Beagle Project, because it's nice and simple, and we can easily get their skin from here. - Mike 23:32, 27 February 2006 (GMT)

Neil and Mike, you are quite avtive at haskel.org. Could you get their skin somehow? I like it much better than the beagle stuff. --Muehlber 13:06, 28 February 2006 (GMT)
I also like the Haskell.org theme. If we can get it, we should use that - Mike 13:33, 28 February 2006 (GMT)
However, I've adopted the beagle thingy for our wiki last night -- hope, you like it :-)) --Muehlber 13:21, 17 March 2006 (GMT)

Contact Information

Hm, I don't see a reason for puting the contact information on a separate page. We do already have The_Programming_Languages_and_Systems_Research_Group:About (which is okay since it's automatically linked on every page) but I thought it would be nice and helpful to have basic contacts "directly" on the main page. --Muehlber 13:14, 28February 2006 (GMT)

I deleted it because it seemed excessive to have a whole section devoted to contact details, and the front page was looking really cluttered. I wouldn't mind a small link, eg: Group head: Colin Ruciman, right at the bottom of the page, but anything else feels superfluous to me. I really don't think we need a snail-mail address - who doesn't use email these days? - Mike 13:31, 28 February 2006 (GMT)
Okay, agreed. For snail mail: I don't know anything about British law but German law requires snail mail addresses on institution websites. --Muehlber 13:37, 28 February 2006 (GMT)
Really? Maybe we do have to have the address on each page then. We'll have to ask Colin or a member of the admin staff about that - Mike 13:43, 28 February 2006 (GMT)
Ah, sorry, I think I see what you mean now. I agree that we should have snail-mail addresses on the About page, but we don't need them on the front page. That was what I was trying to say. - Mike 13:45, 28 February 2006 (GMT)
Well, I'm pretty sure that we do have an adequate amount of contact and about links on the pages now. If it's okay for you right now i'd like to stop bothering with this :-) --Muehlber 13:51, 28 February 2006 (GMT)
Since the contact information is already on the About page, you're right that we don't need a separate Contact Information page. Could you delete it please? - Mike 13:40, 28 February 2006 (GMT)
I've already changed the link on the main page. I'm going to delete it now. --Root 13:42, 28 February 2006 (GMT)

Rename to PLASMA

As I already mentioned to Muehlber, I think we should rename this page to 'PLASMA' rather than 'Main_Page'. That way we can avoid having two titles at the top of the page, and make everything a bit neater. - Mike 14:03, 1 March 2006 (GMT)

Done. I didn't figure out how to make the initial page point to the new one -- but it get's redirected from Main_Page --Muehlber 14:20, 2 March 2006 (GMT)
See here for instructions on changing the initial page. - Mike 09:38, 3 March 2006 (GMT)
Thanks. Done. --Root 11:41, 3 March 2006 (GMT)
