Paul has been Deputy Head of Department with responsibility for Research since 2019, and will take over as Head of Department in March 2021 when Professor Neil Audsley departs York to join City, University of London.
Paul Cairns joined the Department of Computer Science as a lecturer in 2007 and was promoted to be Professor of Human-Computer Interaction in 2019.
His research interests include: research methods for interactive technologies, measurement of user experience, player experience in digital games, games for health and wellbeing.
Paul becomes the tenth Head of Department in the Department of Computer Science's 49 years. The appointment is subject to approval by Senate.
