Does all audio and video content have a text alternative that describes the actual content (e.g. a transcript)? (AAV04)

Why Is This Important?

Though alternative text descriptions can go some way towards making audio and video content accessible, a more comprehensive approach is to provide a transcript of the information presented in the audio and video content. This is particularly beneficial to blind and partially sighted users, who may not be able to see video, and deaf and hard of hearing users, who may not be able to hear audio. Providing transcripts is a more costly approach (both in terms of money and time) but it ensures that the information contained within the audio and video content is accessible and can be read by everyone.

How To Fix The Problem

Transcription of audio and video can be carried out by a third party or by yourself.Whilst the latter is more expensive, both in terms of money and time, it may also provide a more accurate reflection of the audio and video content.
