WebAIR

(if yes) Are the text alternatives used consistently throughout the website (e.g. to describe similar sorts of images)? (IMG04)

Why is this important?

Uniformity of alternative text amongst images that are similar helps the user to know what to expect, especially users who are blind or have low vision or cognitive impairments. If different alternative texts are used on images that are the same, the user will not be aware that they have already encountered the image elsewhere and may not know what to expect from the image. By ensuring that alternative text is used consistently throughout a website, such confusion can be avoided.

How to fix the problem

As well as ensuring that every image has an alternative text description, check that the alternative text is used consistently across a page or across a website. Of course, if the same image conveys a different function in different places then a different alternative text should be provided.
