Here are some basic instructions for using the CMM demonstration application.

To start the application, double-click on the file cmm.bat in this folder. This first tries to remove any old files from a previous invocation of the application, and then starts a java GUI from which the application can be controlled. It is necessary to have a java runtime system installed on the system in order to use this demonstration. For details see the SUN java web pages.

The application has two distinct parts or stage:

1. The first stage involves creating a specification file (or "spec" file) to describe the form of the data file containing errors or missing values and control how that files is processed. An example "spec" file is provided with the name meanw.spc which describes the data file test.csv containing 100 records (plus a header) and requests imputation processing. From the "File" menu item, chooes the "Load spec" sub-item in order to load the file meanw.spc. This file can be examined and modified using the "Edit" menu item, but take care not to change too much in this file or the example will no longer work properly. The example is set to work properly with the existing file meanw.spc.

2. After loading the file meanw.spc, the example data file can be processed immediately, by selecting the menu item "Application", and the sub-item "Run". Two popup boxes will apear, one to inform that the application is running and the second to inform the user which actual command was passed to start the Dos application (this is for information only, but can be useful if things go wrong). You should click on "OK" to clear the information popup box. It is recommended that you check that processing is really finished before clicking on the "Halt" button in the application running popup box (e.g. when the result files are present in destination folder and hard disk activity is minimised), as this can leave the application in an undetermined state and may cause the application to terminate incorrectly. When everything is finished another popup window should appear to inform the user of "Processing completed." (But on some versions of Windows this may not happen, and it will be necesary to click on the "Halt" button (see above).
