What is the start date of a scholarship?

In the first phase, all scholarships have to commence between 1 Jan 2009 and 1 April 2009. The second phase for the academic year 2009/10 starts Sept/Oct 2009.

What subjects are funded by the project?

The Eureca project at York is primarily intended for students wanting to study Computer Science and related topics. Currently, most of the scholarships are awarded to scholars coming to Computer Science with a smaller number of scholarships awarded to Electronics and Management.

Can scholars receive a degree (BA, BSc, MSc, PhD)  with the scheme?

At York, we would encourage students to take advantage of the funding offered by the program to enroll in a degree program that can be completed within the duration of the funding.

Since, 1 year MSc programmes are the only ones that can be completed within the maximum 12 months funded by the project, we encourage students to apply for a taught MSc or a MSc by Research programmes offered at York. However, for 2009, enrollment in a taught MSc programme has not been feasible as the scholarships have to start between January-April 2009 whereas MSc programmes at York started in October 2008. Hence, a 1 year MSc by Research is the only possible degree that can currently be obtained within this programme. The project is currently requesting the EU to permit more flexibility in the start date of scholarships in order to make more effective use of the funding.

What are the educational benefits to scholars?

Scholars will benefit by studying at one of the top institutions in the UK. They will gain valuable exposure to a stimulating educational environment and research culture early in their career which should provide them with strong background in their future academic endeavours.

What will Eureca scholars study at York?

This is dependent on the particular subject they are studying. Computer Science undergraduate and masters students will be expected to do a combination of coursework and a project work. They will be offered a wide selection of modules from our 3rd year, 4th year undergraduate and MSc courses. In addition, they will be offered a project work as part of their final year dissertation in their home institution.
