Q. What do you like about the course content?
A. The course is well designed, we have the opportunity to work in both - hardware and software lab. In the hardware lab students can really build something which is quite a challenge but fun too. On the other hand the software lab allows us to learn not only a programming language but also the foundation of how to program, which is a really good way to study software engineering.
Q. What have been the best aspects of the course so far?
A. The best part so far for me is the programming, I really enjoyed it, it was hard in the beginning, but after I practiced more, I managed to overcame the difficulties. And after all, it gave me a strong feeling of success.
The course is well designed, we have the opportunity to work in both hardware and software lab.
Q. What do you think about the facilities?
A. The facilities in the Computer Science Department are absolutely fantastic, we have a 24-hours computer lab, and we also have 2 hardware labs with really outstanding facilities. We are able to access both types of labs whenever we want and the systems we have on the computers are updated frequently. Those facilities give us a very good study environment.
Q. What is your opinion about living in York and what do you like about the city?
A. I think the city is lovely, it is a small city so there is no problem to go out at all, the walking distance from the city center to the University is only about 30 minutes. The people of York are friendly to students, so I think this city will always be my favorite.
Q. Do you feel part of a good student community?
A. Yes, I do. There are so many student activities running by different student associations, we have numerous societies and clubs. You can chose to join any one of them, and on the other hand, there are still a lot sports event running by different colleges. I am a member of a college basketball team, we have matches every Sunday. So we have many chances to communicate with others and it's easy to make new friends.
Q. How do you feel about your future in terms of career, and are you confident of the computer science foundation and skill set that you are developing?
A. I always have great confidence of the computer science and skill I got from university, as the University of York has really good teaching staff. They all have a lot of teaching experience, and they always keep developing the way they conduct lectures, which can make student assimilate the knowledge easier. The most important thing for me is that the Computer Science Department offers students the opportunity to take a industry placement. I will go on a placement after my second year. This industry year will be a good chance to gain some experience of working in a company doing a real job. It gives me a real feeling of what I will do after my university life, and in my own opinion, the best way to study software programming is working in practice. So, my degree will give me the confidence to face my future.
