Services for Business

The Department of Computer Science at the University of York has a well established and successful history of links with industry, and these links inform both our teaching and research to keep us relevant and up-to-date in such a dynamic field. As one of the leading departments of Computer Science in the UK, we are setting the agenda for some of the big challenges in the discipline.

Providing professional education

Whatever your requirements, we can help. If you work for an engineering or IT based company, our teaching can help you and your people to update, refresh and extend your knowledge through our continuing professional development and postgraduate programmes.

Our Industrial Advisory Board, which meets regularly, keeps us up to date with what’s happening in the sector, so that we can keep our programmes relevant to your business.

Industrial placements

We work with a number of organisations to provide year-long placements and summer internships for our undergraduate students. This allows our students to gain experience within a workplace and put what they have learnt into practice, but also gives the organisation extra resource at a lower cost than employing a graduate, whilst also having the chance to consider the student for a permanent position at the end of their course.

There are many benefits to taking on a placement student - find out more about our industrial placements scheme.

Collaboration on research and consultancy

We welcome collaboration with organisations on research projects, and we are currently working with several companies on projects to help them take their business forward.

Many of our staff also undertakes consultancy work, and many have experience of working within a multitude of differing organisations, to help them to innovate and keep ahead of their competitors.

If you would like us to help you, either on a consultancy basis or through research, just get in touch with your ideas. If you have any further queries contact our Executive Officer Sarah Christmas.

Want to get involved with the Department?

We welcome applications for secondments (part-time or full-time) to undertake research or contribute to the teaching of our industry-related programmes. Contact Sarah Christmas with your details.
