Students are expected to read around the subject. Background information relating to examples which will be studied on the module may be posted on the course web page; students will be expected to have read this material. Many of the exercises and case studies contain more material than can be completed in the group sessions, and students are expected to continue working on these in private study time.
This module addresses the safety issues that arise after system deployment: Safe management of operational systems; Procedures required to maintain the safety of systems when maintenance or modification is required. Safety monitoring and advanced safety monitoring techniques
On completion of this module, students will understand: The issues that need to be addressed for safe management of operational systems; The difficulties encountered with maintenance of operational systems, and how to address them; The safety case issues associated with changes to operational systems.
Managing operational risk; Safety policies for system operation and management; Safety aspects of operational procedures; System monitoring and fault management; Maintenance and modification; Configuration management; Hazards associated with maintenance and modification activities; Effects on the safety case and recertification issues; Regression and acceptance testing.
Copies of all lecture slides, case studies and exercises will be provided.
