York Coordination Group Research Interests

Development of Linda based systems:

The York Linda kernel
The York Linda kernel is a fully distributed Linda kernel. It has been developed on a T800 Meiko CS 1. The kernel has recently been ported to work on top of PVM 3.x.

Garbage Collection and Linda
In the Linda model that we currently use we have adopted multiple tuple spaces. We are interested in looking at the addition of grabage collection of both active and passive tuples.

ISETL-Linda
The embedding of the Linda primitives within the ISETL language - an interactive set based languages.

Gofer-Linda
The embedding of the Linda primitives within Component Gofer - an interactive functional programming language.

Development of the Linda Model:

The semantics of Linda
The development of some formal semantics for the all the Linda primitives

Replacement primitives for Linda
In the Linda model we use we have discarded the semantically problematic inp and rdp primitives and replaced them with two new primitives - collect and copy-collect.

Extended tuple matching
Extending the capabilities of the matching process, as part of the AIKMS project: CHALK

Abstract Machines for Linda
Investigation the definition, development, derivation and usage of abstract machines for Linda, as part of the AIKMS project: CHALK

Use of the Linda Model:

Image processing
The application of the Linda model in the image provessing field.
AIKMS project: CHALK
Use of the Linda model in a distributed environment to support Case Based Reasoning sytems.
Optimisation of Linda programs
The effect of optimisation on a program using the Linda model.
