We are seeking volunteers who would like to join our participants and take part in interviews, discussion groups and practical studies related to our research. Please visit our research participation page for more information.

The Human Computer Interaction group is a diverse one, exploring a wide variety of fields.

Methodologies and Measurement in HCI:

The group is actively driving the field of HCI forward by exploring and validating techniques for research and practice in user interface design and implementation. This work includes such diverse areas as:

Accessibility on the Web:

Participation in projects such as the Tenuta: Promoting Accessibility and Usability, and BenToWeb (Benchmarking Tools and Methods for the Web), our team has developed innovative user evaluation strategies that have helped contribute to standards and tools to make the web more accessible for people with disabilities. Our group is also actively involved with investigations into the presentation of tactile and electronic graphics to people with visual disabilities.

E-Learning:

Through participation in the EU4ALL (European Initative for Accessible Lifelong Learning) project, our group is investigating the requirements for support services for people with disabilities and mature students in blended and e-learning environments.

Home Technologies:

The group is exploring usability, enjoyability and dependability issues in computing and communication products used in the home. This research is largely conducted in our Home Lab, which is associated with the Centre for Usable Home Technology (CUHTec).

Multimodal Interfaces:

We are exploring alternative interactive modalities such as sound and gesture. This is particularly in the context of interfaces for users with disabilities. For more information please visit the Multimodal Interfaces research page.
