I have just compiled nhc98src-1.02 on Win2K under Cygwin, and it went smoothly (which was not the case with 1.00, so congratulations on the improvement). But when I type "make install", I am told that "install is up to date". This cannot be, since I am not able to run "nhc98", "hi", etc. from my home directory without giving the complete PATH. Anything I can do about this? If it's only a matter of adding that PATH, I can do it myself, but I suppose "make install" does more than that. * I have also tried to compile nhc98src-1.02 on FreeBSD RELEASE-4.2, but I get these error messages running "make": "Makefile.inc", line 12: Need an operator "Makefile.inc", line 15: Need an operator "Makefile.inc", line 19: Need an operator "Makefile.inc", line 21: Need an operator "Makefile.inc", line 23: Need an operator "Makefile.inc", line 26: Need an operator "Makefile.inc", line 28: Need an operator "Makefile.inc", line 43: Could not find /lib//config Error expanding embedded variable. Something to do with GNU make versus BSD make? * Above all, what Windows users would like to see is a version that could be compiled by VC++ and then run like a native Windows program. Having to download Cygwin and run nhc in a Unix box is something of a hassle and a disincentive to using Haskell on Windows. Therefore, has anyone tried to make a Windows version? This is not even on your TODO list, so I guess the answer is no. There are no doubt caveats, but maybe there is a list of such caveats somewhere so that one could assess the magnitude of this task? -- Tore
