Announcement ------------ A new pre-release of the nhc98 Haskell Compiler, nhc98-1.0pre16, is now available in the usual place: http://www.cs.york.ac.uk/fp/nhc98/ The main features new to pre16 since pre15 are better library support, and in particular, new implementations of Random, Directory, and IOExtras. If you haven't been following nhc98's progress, other recent features since the last announcement on the nhc-users list in August 1999 include: * support for the new common primitive foreign function interface * inclusion of Sven Panne's FFI library * speed-up of up to 25% on compiled code (if you have gcc) * optional reinstatement of named field punning * better automatic configuration, especially for building with ghc * various bugfixes, including fixes for Cygwin and HP-UX nhc98 is now essentially Haskell'98 compliant. We expect to move from the "pre-release" designation to a full release within the next couple of months. Mailing-list changes -------------------- The nhc-users list has had very little traffic. We would like to encourage people to use the list more, partly to give nhc98 a higher profile, and partly to ensure that all users are aware of new features and bugfixes. Hence, from now on, we would prefer all bug reports for nhc98 to be notified to the nhc-users list, rather than directly to the maintainers.
