Applicants may complete and submit their application electronically using the University’s online application system.
Alternatively you can download and complete our paper application forms, please include the following:
- copies of your academic transcripts
- your CV and personal statement
- two references on headed paper in sealed envelopes*
*Applicants are required to nominate two referees, of which at least one should be from the applicant’s current employer or place of study. Please refer to the notes on providing references.

If you are submitting an independant application we would encourage you to propose a research topic and, if possible, a Sponsoring Organisation for the project.
The Centre will actively assist in bringing together qualified applicants with suitable Sponsoring Organisations and academic supervisors at The University of York. In most cases, applicants will be interviewed before recommendation for enrolment.
