Want to know more about Agile for free?

We are running an evening taster session at 19:00 - 20:30 on Monday 13 December 2010, to help you find out more about Agile practices.

True or false?

  • Agile methods are designed only for desktop apps and web apps.
  • Agile is risky to use when you have hard deadlines to meet.
  • Agile has not been proven for embedded and safety-critical systems.
  • Agile is only for software development, not hardware.

Each of these statements is false.

In fact, Agile practices were initially inspired by the difficulty of working in embedded product development. Embedded Agile brings specific additional technical practices to "plain vanilla" Agile. Embedded development has more constraints. Embedded teams typically are more enmeshed with other company departments, making it difficult to attain the autonomy that allows Agile teams to go fast. The final customer is usually much more remote than in business or web software applications: a heart transplant patient cannot give useful feedback on blood analyser design.

Real teams building embedded and safety-critical applications are using Agile methods to significantly improve productivity whilst drastically cutting defects. All while working the same hours - and you can do it too.

We will cover:

  • What is Agile?
  • How to bootstrap an embedded project using Agile methods;
  • Examples of Agile success in real-world embedded projects.
