The ACA group often has vacancies for researchers on specific projects and for Post Graduate Research leading to a qualification (i.e. PhD, these are listed below (they will also be found on the University's Research Vacancies web page).

Post Graduate research (PhD, MPhil and MSc by research) Research

The group accepts applications for research toward a PhD (3 years), MPhil (2 years) and MSc by research (1 year) at any time. The details of these types of degrees can be found at the Department web pages.

The Department has a number of PhD places starting in October of each year. You can apply for these at any time, please identify the person you would like to do a PhD with and the subject, by looking at the information below. There are often specific calls for PhD places, these will be listed in the Current Vacancies section  above.

Postgraduate research places are offered by all permanent staff in the Advanced Computer Architectures Group. When making you application you may select the member of staff who's research area matches your interest. The areas each staff member works in is given below:

  • Jim Austin - neural networks, computer vision, grid computing, novel architectures, biologically inspired neural systems.
  • Chris Bailey - stack machines, scalable CPU arrays.
  • Simon O'Keefe - neural network architectures and applications, binary neural networks, data mining, self-organising networks, cognitive psychology, bioinformatics, chemical substrates.
  • Nick Pears - computer vision, pattern recognition, biologically inspired vision systems, civil aviation, robot navigation, face recognition, ubiquitous video systems.
