The Explosion of Data VolumesA Seminar by Dave Pearson, Vice President of Architecture, Global Technology Business Unit, Oracle
AbstractAll research communities and every business sector are facing a data explosion. Much of the exponential increase in data volumes is created in a distributed environment by intelligent devices and data streaming technologies mean it is immediately available for capture. In business, the rapid growth in transaction volumes is a consequence of web-based applications producing more frequent interactions with customers and partners. Hardware commoditisation means it is feasible to process much greater volumes of data in near real time as well as to retain data online for longer periods for analysis and interpretation. This presentation outlines the new class of applications that are enabled and explores some of the challenges created for information management. About Dave PearsonDave Pearson is vice president of architecture in Oracle's Global Technology Business Unit. His IT career spans 30 years including 21 with Oracle Corporation. Between 2003 - 6 he worked in the UK eScience programme and was also involved in the development of grid standards as co-chair of the DAIS working group in GGF/OGF. Document Actions |
