Psyton Associates provide a paper based selection and assessment service to police service clients and individual officers wishing to prepare appropriately for selection and self-development. Currently, there is little available in development material to assist in-service candidates prepare for senior management roles. Many of the potential customers are computer literate and market research has shown there is a significant need and gap in the market place for a high quality computer based training and development tool. Consequently, there are opportunities for the company to change the sales portfolio from a purely service based organisation to a more product based organisation.

The project will provide Psyton Associates with an internal IT Expertise and capability from which a paper based service provision can be extended towards an on-line intelligent  computer based interactive elearning system for training police senior managers. The Intelligent Tutoring System will provide a virtual environment where the daily tasks of the police manager will be simulated. The system is aimed to give a realistic feel of the management related activities of the police manager. The trainee will be able to fully understand the impact of their decisions in a virtual environment without actually harming anybody. Being able to understand and appreciate fully the pros and cons of complex management decisions safely without repercussions in a virtual environment should give the trainees sufficient confidence in making their decisions.
