The Artificial Intelligence Group conducts research in the areas of:

  • machine learning, with emphasis on inductive logic programming and applications to bioinformatics,
  • automated reasoning, with emphasis on constraint satisfaction, logical deduction, spatial reasoning and multi-agent systems,
  • computational linguistics, with emphasis on language learning,
  • AI and computer graphics.

Much of the Group's research lies in the intersections of these areas and is concerned with both theoretical principles and their application to real-world domains. The Artificial Intelligence group was formed, on the 1st October 1999, by the merger of the Intelligent Systems and Machine Learning groups.
