The University of York's policy is to provide students with easy access to networked services. In particular, this is provided through an internet service to student study-bedrooms, called Network Access Service (NAS), which covers all College accommodation - that is, it covers all the 4000 study-bedrooms on or near the main University site - and also some open-access ports in colleges and in the J B Morrell Library. See here for details. It is broadband, permanently wired, permanently accessible, and not charged by connection time.
NAS is operated by the University of York Computing Service, and its use is subject to their terms and conditions.
Please note that, within the University of York, the Computing Service is a service department distinct from the academic Department of Computer Science.
If you intend to apply for one of our programmes, but you wish your application to be dependent on a guarantee of internet access, you should establish this point in writing with the University of York Accommodation Office before you send your application to UCAS.
If you have received a conditional or unconditional offer from us, but you wish your acceptance to be dependent on a guarantee of internet access, you should establish this point in writing with the University of York Accommodation Office before you send your acceptance to UCAS.
If our offer to you was unconditional, or if it was conditional but now has become unconditional because you have met its conditions, you will receive an application form for accommodation from our Accommodation Office. This form is accompanied by information about network access.
