MSc in Information Processing: Computers and the Man-Machine InterfaceCourse Outline for 2005-2006IntroductionThis is a one-year MSc conversion course in Computer Science, intended for students with no significant previous knowledge or experience of computing. This very popular and enjoyable course is suitable especially for students who are seeking a career in IT and gives them the opportunity to study at one of the best Computer Science departments in the UK. The course has been accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS) allowing successful MSc graduates to obtain exemption from BCS part 1 examinations. The objectives of the course are:
The course is organised as a collection of
modules. Each module
comprises a mixture of lectures, problem classes and practical classes
plus a significant amount of personal study time. In addition, each
student is a member of a tutorial group which meets regularly with a
supervisor. The course covers five periods: a preliminary 5 days
(Pre-Term),
the three academic terms (Terms 1-3) from October till June, and a long
vacation term (Term 4) from June till September. Term 4 is devoted to
project work, to
