About the Engineering Doctorate

WE HAVE SEVERAL EPSRC FUNDED PROJECTS AVAILABLE - Please visit our Vacancies Page for full details.

The Engineering Doctorate (EngD) is a full doctoral-level qualification that is much more industrially focused than the traditional academic PhD. The EngD Programme in the science and engineering of Large Scale Complex Information Technology Systems (LSCITS) is an innovative, custom-designed, world-class training programme which addresses urgent and growing problems in the design and engineering of IT systems. Its intended aim is to produce the next generation of systems engineers and technology innovation leaders.

The structure and content of the Programme are the result of extensive consultation with researchers and practitioners in a wide variety of Sponsoring Organisations.

The Engineering Doctorate in Large Scale Complex IT Systems is managed by the EngD Centre based at the University of York and the Programme is a University of York award which encompasses teaching from senior faculty at the Universities of Bristol, Leeds, Oxford and York, including The York Management School.

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has committed £4m to support the Programme, providing funding for 30 studentships.
